Getting the best in Blackpool Hotels

by Trevor Sinclair

Located on the northwestern coast of England, Blackpool is a relatively small seaside town with a population of about 140,000. Although cities such London and Cambridge are better known to travelers, Blackpool has been attracting visitors every autumn since 1879 for its single big event: the Blackpool Illuminations. During this time, Blackpool hotels are filled with tourists.

Originally described as "artificial sunshine" the Illuminations are a continuously changing spectacle, making each year's festival different from the years before, with the latest focus being on energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. And an entire calendar of events has grown up around the Illuminations, with entertainment for all ages.

At the town's busiest, from late August to early November during the Illuminations, Blackpool hotels are often booked solid, so if you plan on making hotel reservations for that period, particularly in Blackpool family hotels, it's best to do so earlier rather than later.

Fortunately hotels in Blackpool span a wide variety of accommodations. From five-star short-stay rental apartments and similarly-equipped full-service luxury hotels to affordable accommodations to suit even the most budget-conscious visitor. Family-run bed-and-breakfast places round up the homiest of Blackpool hotels.

There are many more things to do in Blackpool besides eating at one of its many first rate restaurants because as the saying goes, man cannot live by bread alone. Blackpool is also known for having one of England's most varied and longest running theater seasons. There you can witness many sites from circus performances, illusionists to opera. Besides being a stop on many musicians tours, Blackpool is also home to a water park, an amusement park, a zoo and outdoor climbing walls that are the highest in the UK. And I haven't even touched upon the expanse of sandy beaches that the city has to offer.

To reiterate, if you are planning a family vacation in Blackpool during the Illuminations please schedule a room well in advance to get the best rate and your pick of accommodations. In addition to the Illuminations there is much to see and do in regards to the local culture. You should have a great vacation.
