Camping Stoves: Cook The Same As You Would At Home

by Ellen Murphy

I remember the days of camping with dear old mom and dad; we would pitch our tent in the local camp grounds and get settled in for the weekend, our cooler overflowing with pop, beer, and hotdogs and a supply of doughnuts in the picnic basket to eat for breakfast each morning.

Because cooking on a campfire was not worth the effort, that store of doughnuts and hotdogs would keep us fed for the entire weekend. To a child, it first seems great, but after a while, the fun of cooking the hotdog over a fire while mosquitoes eat you alive wears off. And by the last day of camping, the breakfast doughnuts are no longer fresh. Even the most finicky eater dreams of a plate of hot bacon and eggs.

In older days camping trips meant communing with nature and that meant no TV. Now it is more common to see an RV fully loaded with every convenience, making you feel right at home. Whether an air conditioner, a full sized bed or a complete kitchen, these newer RVs certainly remind you that you're not roughing it.

So you like to rough it, but like comfort. You do not have to purchase an expensive RV in order to enjoy the amenities available to campers. Campers can now purchase air mattresses and ceiling fans for their tents. Even cooking outdoors is easier by using a camp stove.

For me, camping means hauling a cooler loaded with our family's favorite camping foods such as hot dogs, burgers, potatoes, and just about anything else that can be pre-cooked from home. Modern camping stoves make cooking around the camp about as simple and easy as it is from home. These stoves are available in numerous sizes, styles and models to affordably fit almost any lifestyle.

I own a camping stove with one grill and two burners. It grills steaks perfectly and is easily moved. It simplifies my life when I'm camping and attempting to provide a meal for a fussy bunch of kids, although they still like toasting hotdogs on a stick till they're blackened, a simple hamburger or a handful of chicken nuggets makes my weekend a breeze.
