I'm sure she realized it wasn't really who Tom said he was. I mean with Caller I.D. and also the idea of calling her work or someone else to confirm that is true would be something anyone with common sense would do. You don't ever get fired over the phone. You are usually asked to meet at your job place or corporate and then in person are told that.
